Leo New Moon: Follow Your Joy

Exclusively written for the Beach House by Lennon Mara of Moon + Quartz

Summer reaches a fever pitch on Sunday, July 23rd for the fiery New Moon in Leo.

Leo energy is the bombastic epitome of summer: it’s fun-loving, hyper-creative, romantic, and chock-full full of joy and exuberance. To the Leo, individuality is paramount. The best manifestations of that uniqueness? Creativity.

But in order to be creative, we need to get present. Think back the first time you fell in love. Do you remember how alive you felt? How alive the whole world felt? How even the smallest details of those early moments seem to have stuck with you— details that, on an ordinary day, you’d never even notice, much less remember?

Love, creativity and presence are the three essential keys to dropping into the deep joy and sense of flow this season has to offer us — and if you’re anything like me, chances are you’d do well to create a little more conscious space for those qualities to flourish in your life!

This New Moon asks us: how can we bring more of that delicious, child-like ease into our lives? How can we make more room for play? How can we let go of our egos, our desire to control, schedule, plan, and measure each and every detail of our lives, in favour of letting ourselves simply be?

It isn’t always easy to turn off the habits that stymie our creativity, but one of the most foolproof methods I’ve come across is travel — even a simple weekend getaway gives us a chance to shake up our patterns, routines and preconceptions, and make fresh discoveries about ourselves and the world around us.

If you’re up for some adventure this weekend, try heading to the Dark Night event in Anchor & Den at Marriott’s Beach House in Cayman on July 21st. You’ll have a chance to set some seaside New Moon intentions amid candles, sage, and a community of like-minded lunar wanderers.

No matter what you do to celebrate this New Moon, find ways to make it a time of levity and delight — and for the rest of the month, let that sweet sense of play be the North Star that leads you toward your own deepest joy. Wherever it leads you.
